Tracking One Campaign Across Email, Social and Print

6 min read

A single campaign — say, a autumn product launch — might run as an email blast, a series of social posts, and a printed flyer at a local event, all pointing to the same landing page.

Keep the campaign name identical, vary the source and medium

Use the same utm_campaign value everywhere (autumn-launch), but let utm_source and utm_medium change per channel: source=mailchimp/medium=email for the newsletter, source=instagram/medium=social for the post, source=flyer/medium=print for the physical piece.

Bridging the print channel

Email and social links are naturally clickable, but a printed flyer needs a QR code to become interactive. Build the tracked URL first, then generate a QR code from that exact link, so the print channel reports back into the same dataset as the digital ones.

Comparing performance afterward

Once the campaign has run, filter your analytics by utm_campaign=autumn-launch and break it down by utm_source. That view tells you which channel actually drove traffic, rather than relying on impressions or guesswork.
